Up in Smoke: Cigarette Tax Increase Vetoed in South Carolina

According to the Wall Street Journal, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has vetoed a bill that would have increased the nation’s lowest cigarette tax by 50 cents per pack. The proposed legislation would have raised the tax from 7 cents per pack to 57 cents per pack.
