LL.M Signing Day
National Signing Day for NCAA College Football commemorates a high school football player’s commitment to a University. All day ESPN airs live appearances of certain high school players making their selection by choosing the hat (situated on a table among other college hats) of the university where they will be playing college football.
There are a lot of factors that go into a high school player’s decision to pick one university over another. For instance, geographic preference, NFL pedigree, educational opportunities, and strength of the team’s current roster. For law students deciding on a LL.M program, many of these factors are relevant. We consider location, the educational programs offered, the potential job opportunities that lie ahead after graduation, and what the school’s current student body has to offer as relevant factors. Therefore, I have created this LL.M Signing Day page in order for potential LL.M’s to ask and answer questions and to meet and greet one another. I will also post important dates and deadlines as well as other information about LL.M programs. Finally, if you have already made your decision, let us know. We’d love to know why you picked that particular program.
I’m probably going to go to NYU but seriously considering not going because its so expensive and more and more graduates from the program are unemployed with a nice bag of debt holding them down.
Roger – Many LL.M applicants share your sentiments as well. I was admitted to NYU as well and the one downside (and I believe only downside) to that program is the cost of the program in addition to NYC’s high costs of living. However, like our J.D. degree, the LL.M is an investment in a long career likely in tax law or other related practice area(s). After talking to many attorneys about my options, they stressed that repayment of the loans would be made over a long period of time and not the day after I graduate. Although the job market is a concern, I believe those that attend the LL.M program for the right reasons and succeed, will not be disappointed with their decision to go the LL.M route.
